Google Contacts Minor UI revamp and new feature to view messages on widgets

The chips like phone, email and company are hidden can expanded with the three horizontal bars button. Tapping on the email now opens up a bottom sheet which you can see in the second screenshot. A new + icon is being added in search bar which allows you to add a new contact. The label icon besides email also open a bottom sheet which shows your existing labels and also an option to add a new one. So basically this UI revamp is done to get rid of the sidebar, so no more hamberger icon. </p><p>Besides this, the other functionality which I mentioned is coming to Google Contacts is being able to see the messages from your contacts directly on the home screen contact widgets. This will apply to only a single contact widget. Imagine saying something funny to your friend with a drumroll sound effect in the background, or expressing love and anger using screen effects with sounds. </p><p>Back in September I came across a "sound reaction" screen in Google Phone beta version which I shared about <a href="https://t.me/GappsLeaks/182" title="">in my telegram group</a>. At that time, I had no idea what it was really about. As the time passed, Google removed the strings and flag which enabled that screen and I thought that feature is dead, but I was wrong.</p><p>In Google Phone beta version 124, I stumbled upon some files which are related to sound reactions feature. The sound reaction feature is similar to reaction effects feature in Google Messages where reacting with a certain emoji bring an aminated effect on screen. In case of Google Phone, you will have screen effects with sounds. There will be 6 emoji reactions, Google is calling them <b>audiomojis - </b>sad, applause, party popper, cry laugh, poop and drum roll. Google stuffed the links of these animated effects and sounds directly in the Google Phone's code. So I managed to pull the sounds and animation effects files. Recently I shared about Google Messages bringing the message editing feature in the latest beta version. While editing messages was the biggest highlight of that update, I want to share some other changes that may make its way to Google Messages.</p><h3>1. Camera Effects</h3><p>As you all know, Google Messages added a camera icon on the homepage on top alongside the search button. But it usually  opens the default camera of your device. Google Messages also has a camera in the attachment dialog where you can quickly snap a pic for sharing.</p><p>Here is a fun fact - Google Message has a completely different inbuilt/in-app fullscreen camera which can be accessed by turning on certain flags using root. Google Message seems to be working on the camera effects features which may be available through this inbuilt camera. So there is definitely something going on. The latest beta version of Google Messages introduced some strings which hints at the camera effects features -</p><blockquote><string name="camera_effect_toggle_hide_content_description">Tap to hide camera effects</string><br><string name="camera_effect_toggle_show_content_description">Tap to show camera effects</string></blockquote><p> There is more code inside the Google Messages app which refers to inapp camera effects - </p><blockquote>• com/google/android/libraries/compose/cameragallery/ui/camera/inapp/effects/CameraEffectsManager$loadFilteredEffects$1<br>• CameraEffectsManager.kt</blockquote><p>The strings hints towards a toggle for switching the camera effects on and off. I am not sure what kind of camera effects Messages team is working on but I can expect it to show up in upcoming beta versions. </p><h3>2. Usually Google Messages shows some recent contacts with whom you are having a conversation with. A flag named - <b>bugle.remove_top_contacts </b>is added in latest beta version. I managed to activate the flag and the top contacts list disappeared completely. <p></p><h3>3. When you open Google Messages again, it shows up in the homescreen of Google Messages indicating that you have a draft message in this conversation. But Google may remove this functionality, as a new flag named - <b>bugle.remove_draft_preview_in_homescreen </b>is added in the recent beta. Just like the previous flag, I enabled it and Google Messages no longer showed the draft preview. I have a draft message in the second screenshot in the RCS International group chat, but it's not showing up like the first screenshot.<p></p><h3>4. But with some more new features like device pairing and profiles which depends on your linked Google account, Google felt the need to provide users with an option of opting-in/out of usage & diagnostics information which is specifically collected from the Google account with which a user signed-in in Google Messages. This setting will be available in Google Messages Settings > Advanced > Usage & Diagnostics. If you have root, you can enable it with the flag - <b>bugle_phenotype__enable_logging_consent_settings_screen</b>. <p>I am not sure which of the changes will be permanent in case of removing top contacts and removing draft preview. There is a string named <b>"Original message: " </b>which I noticed now. Also there is a time limit for editing message. You can only edit messages which are sent in last 30 minutes. </p><p>After a few more weeks of work by the Google Messages team, I can confirm my findings. The edit message feature is finally appeared for me after flipping a few flag with the latest beta version of Google Messages <i>(messages.android_20240213_01_RC00.phone.openbeta_dynamic)</i>. The editing feature works by long pressing a messages in the RCS chat, a pencil icon appears on the top action row. Tapping the pencil icon opens the text editing box with a heading "Editing message". Once you done editing, just hit enter/send button to send the messages. Seems like other people should have the feature enabled as well to make editing feature work properly because they will not see the edited messages correctly if it's not enabled for them. The RCS chat group which you can see in the screenshot, I tested it. While I didn't see any editing changes on my side, but other people recieved the edited message as separate messages. This is because the feature is not enabled for them. Google may bring Google Wallet for Indian users

You can also store your payment cards and use tap to pay to pay anywhere Google Pay is accepted. Google wallet is available in various countries but Google never launched it in India. Google let indian users stick with the Gpay which facilitates UPI payments. Tap to pay is not part of it. Also we can not store things such as IDs and Passes in indian version of Gpay.<br></p><p>This might change and Google may launch Google Wallet in India. With the recent version of Google Wallet and Google Play Services, Google has added some flags and code which indicate that Google is working on something for Indian users regarding wallet. </p><p>The first change I noticed recently when going through the Google Play Services apk was addition of two new flags </p><blockquote>• EarlyCheckInWalletIndia__force_enable_feature<br>• EarlyCheckInWalletIndia__enable_feature</blockquote> <p>Both flags are part of <b>com.google.android.gms.pay </b>package in the Google Play Services. This package contains all the flags for features of Gpay/Wallet. Google does server side flipping of flags to enable/disable features for users. So both these flags doesn't really provide any info about what features enabling these flags is going to bring. But the point here is that Google Wallet is not launched in India so why Google added these flags inside Play Services ? </p><p>The answer could be that Google may be working on bringing Google Wallet to India. It can enable tap to pay, store payments and various other features for Indian users which we don't have in the current Gpay for India.</p><p>I found similar flags in the analysis Google Wallet APK - </p><blockquote>• IndiaEligibility__enabled<br>• IndiaEligibility__force_enabled</blockquote> <p>These flags are also disabled by default. But this is again a clear indication of Google working towards something for Indian users.</p><p>In both cases, enabling the flags doesn't bring anything noticeable UI or feature because there is nothing much added besides flags. Google has dogfood/testing versions internally, so the code will show up slowly in upcoming versions.</p><p>The last piece of code I found is also from Google Play Services. In case you don't know, Google was working on Digilocker integration in the Google Files app which was supposed to bring your digital document inside the app such as driving license, COVID certificates, aadhar card. But Google has ditched the effort of bringing these features and they removed the "Important" tab (where digilocker was supposed to be integrated) from the Google Files app completely. So things are going to change and here is how.</p><p>This is the code which I found in the Google Play Services -</p><blockquote>• LOCAL_RESOURCE_PASS_TYPE_INDIA_PAN_CARD<div>• LOCAL_RESOURCE_PASS_TYPE_INDIA_DRIVERS_LICENSE</div><div>• LOCAL_RESOURCE_PASS_TYPE_INDIA_COVID_VACC_CERTIFICATE</div><div>• LOCAL_RESOURCE_PASS_TYPE_INDIA_AADHAAR_CARD</div></blockquote><p>So the word "PASS" along with PAN, DRIVERS LICENCE, VACC CERTIFICATE & AADHAR CARD, is clear indication of the possibility of Google adding support for these directly through Google Wallet using Digilocker, just like Samsung Pass does it. This code is not old as I have checked older beta versions of Play Services where this code is not present. Here is a string which was added in a previous beta version a few weeks ago but I completely ignored it because it didn't make any sense without flags and the other code - </p><blockquote><string="pay_valuable_log_out_digilocker">Logout from Digilocker</string></blockquote><p>This addition was surprising because there was nothing regarding digilocker before in the Play Services. In the words "<b>pay_valuable</b>", the "<b>pay" </b>to Wallet/Gpay and "<b>valuable</b>" refers to the things like Passes, loyalty cards and transit cards. Since we are talking about digilocker, these "<b>valuable</b>" are driving license, vaccination certificate, PAN card and Aadhar card which can be store in Google Wallet after digilocker integration. </p><p>That's all about it. The Google Photos team is continuously working on new features and with the recent version 6.69 of Google Photos, I got hints of some new features which may be coming to Google Photos.</p><p>In the mentioned version, there are some strings which gives us some overview of what's coming. I tried to enable the features with flags using root, but unfortunately they didn't help in bringing up any UI related to the features. But the strings and code which is being added in some previous version of Google Photos indicates that they are actively working on these features. </p><p>The first features, Google is calling it "My Week". Here are strings related to it - </p><blockquote>• <string name="photos_memories_my_week_create_header>Tell the story of your week with My Week</string><br><br>• <string name="photos_memories_my_week_create_setup_button">Set up My Week</string><br><br><string name="photos_memories_my_week_create_description">Keep loved ones close with a photo journal of life’s little and big highlights</string><br><br>• <string name="photos_memories_my_week_picker_description">Invitees will get a memory in the Google Photos app to see each week with photos you pick.</string></blockquote><p>So with "My Week" feature you can invite people to join a memory in which you can select pictures which you want the people to see in their Google Photo's homepage as a memory. This looks like a great addition in Google Photos app, it will make sharing your favourite pictures to your closed ones easy. This way you don't have to create separate albums and invite people which is kinda same thing as the "My Week" feature, but "My Week" puts the pictures on the homepage and is definitely faster than looking for albums inside the app. I am not still sure whether the memories will show on the main memories carousel or in the separate <b>Memories</b> tab. Having them on the main carousel makes more sense though.</p><p>The other feature which is coming to Google Photos is being called <b>real-time albums. </b>We already have shared albums in Google Photos and it even allows to create event album, family album and travel album. But these albums don't have any specific features, they are just normal albums. Now with real-time albums, Google is aiming on the event album with a new feature. Here are some strings related to it - </p> <blockquote>• <string name="photos_ongoing_chip_real_time_album_text">Your real-time album</string><br><br>• <string name="photos_ongoing_chip_dialog_message">We’ll continue to suggest photos for your album until your event or trip is done</string><br><br>•<string name="photos_ongoing_chip_dialog_done">Event is done</string></blockquote><p>As we can understand from the strings, you can start a real time album when you have an an event or going on a trip. You capture pictures while the event or trip is going on, and Google Photos will suggest pictures to add in this real-time album.
