The Google Pixel 10 series comes with a lot of new interesting software and hardware feature. Google has added a lot of software based features in its Pixel 10 series devices. Google Camera is one of those apps which is getting new features like Pro Res Zoom, Camera coach, support for recording video in AV1 format, Auto best take and more.
The new camera update also brings Expressive UI design to the settings screen. The options in the screen has been reorganized. I shared about this design on Android Authority some weeks ago. I installed the Camera app from Pixel 10 on my Pixel 9. While you might think that installing it on older Pixels might bring some of those features from Pixel 10, unfortunately that is not possible here. Installing it on older Pixel will just force close the app. But I managed to take screenshots from the settings screen which I am sharing here.
If you are a Pixel user, you can clearly see the difference in the UI as well as the changes in texts here. You can see that the on Pixel 10, the Pro Res Zoom feature will require you to download a 1 GB AI model. You will find it under the Model download section. We also have the new Camera Coach and Auto Best Take options in the settings and you can turn them off easily.
For video recording you can now select between H.265, H.264 and AV1 format. H.265 and AV1 both options are best for storage saving video recordings but H.265 will produce more compatible videos which can be used in other apps.
Other Pixel users will also soon get the new Google Camera update which will give them the expressive UI in settings and other places but do not get your hopes high for the new features from Pixel 10 series.
