Google Messages users can now change RCS chat colors for other users

Well, there is not much variety but you can change between 9 different colors. When Google announced this feature Google it also cleared that the colors syncs between the users.</p><p>With the recent beta update of Google Messages <i>messages.android_20240125_01_RCO0.phone.openbeta_dynamic</i>, I was able to activate the feature using some flags and I tested this with another RCS users who need to have the same flags turned on as well. <p>So when the feature rolls out, the user can pick a custom color for the chat. Once the user picks a color you will see a <b>"Jon Doe changed the theme"</b> text with a <b>Change</b> option which brings up the chat colors dialog again. In the same way when the other user changes chat colors, you will also see the same text with their name (if you have their contact saved). This change works for both one on one RCS and group RCS conversations. It will not works for SMS conversations.</p><p>There is no word on the wider rollout of the feature yet but some beta user may already have it working.</p>

There are various features exists in the Google Chat/Space app for workspace users. But I recently stumbled upon a very basic feature while I was messing around with flags - Voice Messages. <br></p><p>Google announced this feature at the <a href="https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z8FuGQwc-ns" title="">Google Cloud Next on YouTube</a>. It is supposed to be out in the first quarter of 2024. Other than this I only found some other forum post where users are requesting for voice message/voice memo features. </p><p>So looks like Google is already working on voice messages support for Google Chat/Space users. I was able to activate the feature with a flag which showed up the voice message recording UI. The same flag also worked in the Gmail app as well because Google has integrated the Google Chat functionality in it. If you choose to press the mic icon, a voice message recording UI pops up at the bottom and starts recording instantly with waveform UI. You also have a delete button on the left and a stop button on the right. All thanks to the AI. Currently the functionality is available on both web and apps, but the thing here is that you have to write the email prompt yourself using keyboard. What if you can just speak the prompt and let app do rest of the work. On Gmail app for Android, Google is working on this feature which will let you draft emails with voice. <br></p>
<p>While many of you can say that on Android, you can just hit the Mic button on your Google Keyboard and do the same thing! You are not wrong. <b>Draft email with voice</b> inside app follows the similar thing but the advantage is that it's built right into the Gmail app itself, providing a seamless experience and UI. </p>

<p>Basically whenever you start writing a new email or reply to an email, the voice typing interface opens automatically with a big mic button, tapping on it will start the recording and you can speak the prompt which will show up above the voice recording button, once you finish speaking, you can tap on "Create" and Gmail will draft you an email with AI. If you choose to close the recording interface, you will see a "Draft email with voice" button on the bottom left of the email. </p><p>I am not sure when Google will roll-out this feature to everyone, because the strings related to this feature was first added back in October 2023. The Gmail version I tested this feature on is - <b>2023.12.31.599526178.Release</b></p>

There was one more feature that went unnoticed because Google didn't announce it (maybe it was/is WIP!!). While I was able to enable the flag, I had no idea how to trigger that feature. But thanks to <b>Jhowkira</b> on telegram, he managed to trigger the feature by just long pressing the camera icon. I tested this personally in Google Messages version - <b>messages.android_20240104_01_RC00.phone_samsung_openbeta_dynamic. </b><br /></p><p>Selfie Gifs is nice little addition to make your conversations more fun by sending 4 second videos as Gifs. It can be accessed by long pressing the camera attachment icon on the bottom typing bar. Long pressing will open a new UI with a rounded camera frame in center and a camera switch button on bottom which will let you switch between front and rear cameras. </p>
<p>The recording will start automatically after you see a 3 second timer. Once it's done you will see a preview UI where you can see the recorded video as gif. Here you have two options - <b>Reset</b> or <b>Send.</b> Pressing <b>Reset</b> will restart the recording process again. If you hit <b>Send</b> button the video will be shared as a rounded gif. It was not confirmed that time if this feature will really makes its way in Play Store, but with a new Play Store version 39.1, seems like it's coming because I got it working by enabling a flag.<br></p><p>FAQs in the app listing page will save a little bit of your time by answering some basic questions which a user have before they install an app or game from Play Store. You don't have to waste your time reading the long detailed discription of apps because FAQs kinda summarizes the features and why the particular app or game is popular. Here is how the FAQs option looks in Play Store - </p><table align="center">

<p>So basically you will a big card with a heading <b>App FAQs</b> and a button on the right side with an icon and text <b>Show</b>. Tapping on it will expand the card and you will mostly see only 3 questions with a dropdown arrow, tapping on which will expand the section and show the answer of the question. You will see the <b>Created by AI</b> text at the bottom as well indicating that all these questions and answers are generated using artificial intelligence. You will also have a <b>Hide</b> option, tapping on it will collapse everything and bring you to the initial state with the "Show" button.</p>
<p>There seems to be some limitations. In my testing, the FAQs button appeared for limited apps and games only, mostly the popular ones like Google Go, Hay day, Duolingo and many more. FAQs are limited to three questions which are kinda the same for both apps and games. For e.g.<br>• What do people like most about this app?<br>• What are the features of this app?<br>• What is this app about?</p>
