Digilocker in Google Files is ready for beta testing and you can enable it now if you have root

Digilocker integration in Google Files will allow users to store their Aadhar, PAN, COVID certificates and Driving license directly in Google Files app.

Currently, the Indian Government provides "Digilocker" on Play Store and can be used to retrieve above documents as well as other 100+ types of other various government documents/certificates. Indian Government is providing API access for digilocker and as a result Samsung Wallet became one of the third party app to support Digilocker integration and now Google Files is going to be the second one.

I showed off the feature in action earlier on my telegram channel and how it works. But previously it was under work and hidden behind an unexposed flag which means that even users with root wasn't able to flip the switch with GappsMod. But with Google Files version 1.1232.565110651.1-release, the flag is now exposed which means this feature may go under beta testing first or Google may roll out to everyone in batches.

How it works

The Digilocker integration will appear under the "Documents" tab. The document tab is the place for storing your documents such as ID, passports, passes and certificates. The main categories are ID Cards, Travel and Health. Digilocker will have its own category/tab named "Verified". The Documents fetched from the official servers will have a purple checkmark on them which means they are verified and will have a "Verified" tag/category under details of that document. In addition to this you will be able to manually add the verified documents. Take driving license for an example, you just have to put you driving licence number and if it matches the linked aadhar/mobile number, it will be added. You can only store one verified document of each type because the a single digilocker account is connected to only person/mobile/aadhar number.

For the first time users, you will see a "Connect to Digilocker" banner under in "Verified" tab. Tapping on "Connect to Digilocker" will open the official digilocker website where you have to login with either your phone number or using aadhar card details. An OTP verification will be done. After OTP verification you will see a page where you have to grant permission to Google Files to let it access your documents.

Once you grant permission, it will fetch your Aadhar, PAN, COVID certificates and Driver licence (if you have them all connected to your mobile number/Aadhar Card). Since I don't have a driving license, my other documents were fetched successfully except that one. When you tap on a fetched verified document, you will see the exact document which you see in the official Digilocker app. You will be able to share it as well and it generates a PDF of the document to share

There is also a "Logout from Digilocker" button which will log you out from the Digilocker website and you have to login again in order to refresh or add new verified documents. Talking about the refresh option, it's under the 3 dots menu for each verified document. So you can fetch any new copy of the document if you have made changes in the document through official means such as changing name or any other personal identifiable information.

People who used the official Digilocker app know that it stores various other document other than the ones I mentioned above. In this case the Digilocker capability in Google Files is limited because it will only fetch the document I mentioned above not all of them such as your marksheets from schools or colleges. Well that's what I have seen and this thing may or may not change in future.

The annoying part!

So I have been testing the feature since some hours and the only annoying thing was that - the login expires after some time and when it expires, you can not access your verified documents. You have to login again on Digilocker website and grant access again. I hope this is just a bug and hoping it to be fixed. There is no such login expire issues with the official Digilocker app and I am not sure about Samsung Wallets behaviour regrading this thing.

Roll-out or beta test ?

I am not sure about this. Considering the thing is fully working as expected, Google can roll out in batches or beta test it because changelogs from the official listing of Google Files hints that "Important" tab is under beta testing for users in India.

Enable Digilocker if you have root

We have to use GappsMod app for this. I have written a detailed guide about GappsModFlags which you can read here if you didn't knew about GappsMod app before. To turn on digilocker in Google files

Package name -

com.google.android.apps.nbu.files.device#com.google.android.apps.nbu.files

Turn on the Flag -

Naagrik__is_digilocker_enabled

That's it, no force stop Google Files app two time to make the feature appear.

That's it for now. If you want to see more content like this on blog and the content which I don't post on blog, you can join my channel on telegram. :)

While there is nothing stopping Google from bringing to phones as well but we will see more about it in future updates of Google Message.

Google will make it easier for you to send and recieve your RCS chats/messages from Google Messages on your other phones/devices. With the latest beta version of Google Messages, Google is working on adding this functionality.

Currently there is no way to read/send your RCS chats/messages on your other phone. But there is a workaround which involves using Google Messages in your phone browser and turn on desktop website option to pair using QR code. In Google message I found some strings such as -

Use your phone number to send and receive messages on devices signed into your Google account.

Message from your phone number on your other devices
There are two things needed here for it to work - your phone number and other devices with the same Google account. Google previously didn't allow using the same phone number on two devices with Google messages and it is great to see them bringing this functionality and bring a true multi device experience. This may be useful on the Pixel Tablet which have Google message app but relies on Google Web version for checking your messages (The usual QR code pairing process).

Currently the feature may be in work because I don't have other device to test and there is no flag for this thing which I can turn on. So people can try the message version messages.android_20230907_01_RC00.phone.openbeta_dynamic and check if it works. (update: I tried to see if it works using my account on my friend's phone with the same beta version, but looks like some pieces of the puzzle are missing and I can not get it to work. )

In addition to the above feature, Google Messages will show you a warning screen when a screen reader is active.

Screen reader active

"We suspect that there's a screen reader active on your device. Your content will be accessible once it is turned off."

I am looking more into this and will update if I find anything new. Google Photos is preparing to add partner sharing shortcuts, auto-archive albums and reminders

I managed to enable the new partner sharing shortcut feature and found some strings which indicate that an auto archiving and a reminder creation feature is in the works. These changes are added gradually in last the last four or five updates of Google Photos and went totally unnoticed. Work on some features is still going on and there is no guarantee that all of them will see public release because anything can happen at Google.

1. Partner Sharing Shortcuts

The partner sharing shortcut feature can make it easier for you to add your partner in new and current albums and save you a few clicks. The current partner sharing feature is completely different and has nothing to do with partner shortcuts.

Whenever you create a new album, Google Photo gives you an option to "Share" and choose people with whom you want to share the album. The current functionality of adding a person or partner includes tapping on "Share", then selecting the partner name from "Invite to album" and pressing the "Send" button.

With partner sharing shortcuts, you can directly add your partner with a single tap when creating new albums and also in existing albums. Google Photos will show you a chip with your partner's name besides the usual "Share" option and tapping on the name will automatically send the album invitation to your partner.

I managed to take a few screenshots of the feature which you can see below -

This feature is limited to only showing your partner name, adding more people in sharing shortcuts isn't supported. You have to go through the usual process of inviting people if you want to share your album. Personally, this is a nice addition in Google Photos if it ever rolls out.

Google One Exclusive Features

The other two features - auto archiving albums and setting reminders may be Google One exclusives as the string in the Google Photos indicates -

As a Google One member, you can unlock reminders, auto-archive, and more

2. Auto Archiving Albums

This feature will allow you to auto archive albums after a period of 30 days. The strings I found about auto-archiving are -

photos_search_functional_album_auto_archive_label
The value of above string is
Archive after 30 day
There are more
AUTO_ARCHIVE_TOGGLE

FUNCTIONAL_ALBUM_AUTO_ARCHIVE_TOOLTIP

If Google rolls out this feature you will find the toggle for it in the album options.

3. Reminders or Event creation!!!

Yes, one more app to create reminders. The strings hints that you can create a reminder, set time & date, set title and change the duration of reminder (like all day or a particular time).

photos_search_functional_reminders_creation_default_title_text

Value of above string is -

Reminder from Google Photos

There are other strings which just refer to setting time, title and duration. An interesting one is -

The Google Photos app needs access to your calendar to let you create calendar events, like setting reminders. On the following screen, change your calendar permissions from Don’t Allow to Allow.

This is kinda interesting because currently Google photos does not have calendar permission and may be added in future updates of Google Photos if they don't kill the feature even before it comes out.

While I am not sure about how reminders are going to work in Google Photos, but suppose a picture of wedding card in Google Photos that have a future date mentioned on it, then Google Photos may show you an option/chip to create a reminder from it. Well, we will see. ;)
Follow my telegram channel for new feature leaks and flags to enable new features in Google apps. These flags are controlled by Google and they can enable and disable them using their servers for specific Google apps and specific features.

Some flags are plain text and sometimes they are just numbers. Plain text flags can be easily read and we can guess what they do, but when it comes to flags which are numbers, they are kind of encrypted flags and only Google knows which flag is doing which thing.

An average user have no control over these switches which Google likes to flip often, but if you have a rooted Android phone, you can easily do it with GappsMod app.

What's is GappsMod ?

GappsMod (formerly GoogleDialerMod) is an app built by Jacopo Tediosi which allows you to switch flags present in the GMS phenotype database. It is an Open source app and is available to download on GitHub. Its a well built app with Material You design and an annoying minor bug (will explain later in article) In addition to flipping flag switches in GMS, you can also flip switches of Google Play Store which has its own separate phenotype database.

GappsMod also have some prebuilt options to enable certain in Google Messages and Google Dialer. Depending on which version of these apps you use, they can work completely fine or they just don't because Google often changes, adds and remove flags.

Features of GappsMod

Enable and Disable flags.

Search and filter flags. Enabled/Disabled/Changed/Unchanged

Suggested mods (enabling some features in Google Message and Phone)

Enabled/Changed flags are highlighted

Revert Flags by package name or revert everything.

Things to know before using GappsMod

The first and most important thing is that you need a rooted phone. It's not possible without it (not with shizuku or adb as well). There are some other things you should know if it's your first time using GappsMod

Package Name - Each Google app have a particular package name and there can be multiple package names in each app. Sometimes it is same as the app package name itself like com.google.android.dialer and sometimes it's like com.google.android.dialer#com.google.android.dialer. GappsMod displays app icons before package name, so it's easy to recognise which package name belongs to which Google app.

Flags - Each package name have their own set of flags. Some flags are enabled by Google already and some are disabled. Sometimes a feature can work by enabling a certain flag but also can require enabling multiple flags for a feature depending on how Google is doing it.

How to use GappsMod

Using GappsMod is simple as it can be. You have to choose package name first and it will list all flags associated with that package name. The difficult thing is - if you are looking flag for a particular feature in a particular app, then you have to go through all the flag or search a term similar to the feature. You have to select each email individually which is itself a frustrating process. Gmail on web allows you to select all emails at once but It's coming to Android Gmail as well.

With the latest version of Gmail 2023.08.20.561750975.Release, Gmail may allow you to select all emails. Like you selected 150 emails, and once you chose "Deselect all", it will unselect all 150 emails not 50. And if you tap "Select all" again after unselecting, it will select all 150 emails not 50. I know it sounds confusing, better look at the video I attached in the article.

Now the final point is - when will it roll out. I am not sure about it because Google do all kind of testing in batches as we all know before rolling out to everyone.

Follow t.me/GappsLeaks on telegram for more updates :) and if you like the work I do - Support me on patreon

Before diving into the information, I want to share that this is @AsssembleDebug from Gapps Flags & Leaks channel on telegram. I share information about unreleased/upcoming features in Google Apps or whatever I could find about Android. This is my old blog which I decided to open again and will post new things here. Please ignore the old posts on blog. I will cleanup them in some days. So let's come to the topic.

Google and Samsung (Snapdragon too!!) has been working on the XR headset since a while and not much is released or shared about the product itself. The only thing confirmed is - Google is working on the "Micro XR" (as reported by different news outlets) platform based on Android which will power the XR headset of Samsung, if they ever launch it.

There is not much information available about the Micro XR platform itself as well because Google is keeping it a secret. But they can't keep it a secret if they keep adding the code about XR in their apps which they release publicly, which is what I discovered in Google Play Store and Google Play Services. The code itself doesn't reveal anything about the Samsung's XR headset but provides a few bits of information about XR platform. So let's get started.

1. XR is a new form factor and Samsung's XR headset isn't alone

There are different type of products which are powered by Android. Google referes to them as form factors. Phone, Tablets, Foldables, Wear, Android TV, Auto and Chromebooks are different kind of form factors. Code in Google Play Store reveals that Google added the new "ANDROID_XR" as a form factor. So you may see products from different companies, not just Samsung's XR headset, powered by XR platform. Here is a screenshot of the code that I found.

2. Play Store

Since XR Platform will be running on Android you can expect Google Play Store to be pre-installed on it. In the code I found, there is a flag AndroidXr__is_android_xr in Google Play Store which is currently set to false. This flag can be used by the Play Store to check for device properties and based on it, it can set the flag to true or false if the device properties indicates that it is an Android XR powered device.

This flag can be used to show Apps & Games specifically made for Android XR devices and filter out other contents. I enabled this flag as well, but it doesn't seem to do anything for now because of the only the partial code is added by Google & ofcourse there is nothing available for this form factor.

3. Setup Wizard

Just like Phones, Wear, TV and all other form factors, Google is making a specific Setup Wizard for the XR devices which will be used for the initial setup. Google lists the package name as "com.google.android.xr.setupwizard" followed by some kind of hash code or checksum for the setup wizard's package name. There were other setup wizard packages in the list which are used for Phones, Wear, TV etc. Check the screenshot below, I removed other setup wizard's package name and showing the specific one for XR devices.

4. Google Play Services, Flip that flag bro.

After digging through the Play Store code, my excitement was on another level and I immediately checked Google Play Service's code and wasn't disappointed. Since Google Play Service is an important part of Android Devices (except the one's which doesn't ship with GMS), it was evident that Play Services will be used to enable and disable features of XR devices and do some other kinds of things specific to XR devices, which we will know in upcoming months.

There is a flag named "Common__android_xr_feature_flag_enabled" in Play Services which is specifically for XR devices. There was another same flag below it, but it had "tv" written instead of "xr". So I immediately understood that it's for the XR devices, not just some random flag because there are literally 100s of flags in GMS code.

I really don't know what this flag do but I am pretty sure enabling on it Phone will do nothing. It is supposed to be enabled on the XR device itself to enable features related to the device.

5. System Feature Defined

This is last thing and is kinda important. Basically every Android powered device or product can make itself distinguishable from other products by defining a "uses-feature" tag in a XML file inside the system or product partition. This feature tag/flag thing can be queried by the apps to check if the device supports a specific feature (hasSystemFeature).

So in case of XR devices, all devices will have android.software.xr.immersive as a feature defined in system. Every product based on Micro XR platform will declare this so the apps can determine if it is actually running on a XR device and not on some other Android phone or tablet. Google Play Services is using the hasSystemFeature (some api or code, idk) to query the android.software.xr.immersive feature and if the Play services find the feature in XR device, it can enable the features specific to XR device which we currently do not know.

This is all I found for now about Android XR Platform. If anything new appears, I will share it on my GApps Flags & Leaks channel on telegram as well as on this blog if it makes an article long enough like this.

If you never used an advertisement blocker or do not even know that such
things exists, this article is for you. A normal users who buys a smartphone
for just clicking pictures and browsing social media never pays much attention
to the ads which is being shown to him/her. These kinds of people are mostly
OKAY with them and can wait 10 to 15 seconds to watch an advertisement in a
  Android app.

Android apps servers advertisements in different forms, such as text, banners
and videos. People download random apps and games from Play Store and served
with advertisements within 5 minutes or even less. Some apps do it very
aggressively and bombard users with ads after tapping something in the
  app.

You can block all these kinds of advertisements easily on any android phone
and save some time as well as you can take advantages of your full phone
screen. When these advertisement are blocked, the banner ads which you see in
bottom of app or at other parts of app, they all disappear.

There are three easy ways you can blocks ads on your Android phone. One of
these methods require you to have a rooted phone and the other two methods
works without root for almost everyone. I am going to discuss about the
non-root methods first because an average Android does not understand what
  Root is.

Non-Root Method

There are two methods for blocking ads on non-rooted Android.

1. Private DNS (Android 9+).

Android 9 introduced the private DNS feature. It is available in most
android phones running Android 9 and above. Some phone manufacturers hides
this options in their software so the user can not access it. As far as I
know it is hidden somewhere deep in MIUI android pie and you have to find it
using Activity Launcher app. If you are not sure if its available in your
Settings of your phone (usually its under Network/Internet settings) , you
can search on Google about it. Once you find it, you can follow below steps,
otherwise you can use the second method.

We gonna use adguard DNS to block ads. Adguard provides DNS service which
also blocks ads requests from your network.

Find the Private DNS settings first. For me, its in
        Settings > Network & Internet

Tap on Private DNS and then check on
        "Private DNS provider hostname".

Now enter dns.adguard.com in the text field and tap on
        Save.

Thats it. You enabled it successfully.

There are other DNS address which you can use for blocking ads. If you have
trust issues with these DNS providers, please search on Google about them
before trying. Also remember that if your internet gives any kind of issue
when Private DNS is turned on, it means that the DNS provider is working
slow. You can try turning it off and see if everything goes back to
    normal.

dns-family.adguard.com (same as above DNS but this one blocks

2. VPN based Ad Blockers

Its clear from the name, this method utilize the VPN connection feature of
Android to block ads. This is by far gives the best results in blocking
advertisements. Well, you don't have to setup VPNs manually. We are going to
use some trusted third party apps which can turn on/off advertisement
    blocking with just one tap.

For this article, I am going to use DNS66 app, which is an open source app.
It is hosted on Fdroid and is completely safe to use.

        Download DNS66 from
        Fdroid. (Direct Link)

Install the apk and launch DNS66.

Tap on the refresh icon shown in top right.

Tap on the big START button and allow the app to make VPN
        connection.

It everything goes fine, it will be enabled and you can have adfree
        experience now (mostly).

Qaud66 allows you to add custom hosts file by adding a direct URL to it. If
you are new and do not want to bother search for Hosts files, the default
option is fine. You can find more hosts file at
    Energized Protection.
In DNS66, you can even select apps in which you want to apply ad blocking.
Blockada, Adguard and AdClear are some other apps which works on the same
    principle of VPN based blocking.

Root based Ad blocker

Root based ad blockers were used to be a thing years ago when root was
popular. The availability of VPN based root blockers reduced the usage of
root based ad blockers. Adaway is one such app which is still being
updated by developers. Since we are talking about root based ad blockers,
Energized Protection should be mentioned here also. Its not an app
actually, its a magisk module. People who are familiar with root/Magisk
modules would find it easy to install it. The same goes for AdAway app as
well. Energized protection is more powerful as compared to AdAway, but
personally for me, its a hassle to whitelist and blacklist links in it.
AdAway is easy in case of white/blacklisting URLs.

How to use AdAway

AdAway works fine on lower versions below pie. And for Android Pie+, users
have to enable systemless hosts from magisk manager settings. It is
because of some read write protection introduced in system by Google. Here
are the steps to use AdAway-

Firefox on Android recently released the newly designed browser which brought
newly designed tab switcher, search bar location customization, tab
collections, and access to limited add-ons. These changes, as compared to old
version of Firefox left some users in anger because the new Firefox took away
the ability to use thousands of other Firefox add-ons. Meanwhile Firefox said
that full add-on support will come again in future. For now they are focusing
  on improving other things.

With Firefox For Android Version 81.0 beta 2, Firefox is bringing some major
changes which you will surely appreciate. Here are some noticeable changes in
  the recent beta update.

Improved search bar

The first thing I want to highlight is the improved search experience. In
earlier version, when bottom toolbar was enabled the search bar went to top
when we wanted to search for anything. This behavior is changed a little and
the bottom bar stays on bottom while we type anything for search.

External download manager support

When Firefox rolled out new version with overhauled design, one thing was
surely missing - Download Manager. Firefox finally added a Download Manager
section which can be easily accessed by three dot menu. As a bonus, they have
also added support for external download managers. Apps like ADM and IDM on
Android will surely benefit from this which are more advanced download
managers as compared to default download managers of Android.

Suggested logins

With suggested logins, Firefox is making it easy to login from different
accounts on a website. Suggested logins is a nice addition to Firefox, it adds
an "Suggested Logins" strip on top of your keyboard whenever you are about to
sign in on a website. If you have multiple accounts on a website, you can
choose which account information you want to be auto-filled for signing in.

All these things are okay but Instagram does not provide any way to download pictures and videos from its app, just in case if you wanna share some video to someone on any other app.

Of course you can use the ad-filled third party apps from Play Store which can help you download all those pictures and videos from Instagram by just copy pasting the post link. However its a messy way to download and you have to go back and forth to copy links in Instagram if you want to download more pics and videos.

The easy way is - Instander. It can not only just help you download images and videos, it can also block advertisement which you see in your Instagram feed. Instander places a download button in all post of Instagram and make it easy to download them. I am personally using the app since it came into existence.

Features of Instander -

Image/Video/Stories download support.

Block advertisement from feed (some ads appears in the section though)

Disable analytics

Disable video autoplay

Disable recommended friends

Disable swipe to navigate

Load feed pictures in maximum quality

Hide liked posts

Don't read (Does not tell the sender that you read the message)

Don't type (Does not tell the sender that you are typing a message)

Hide view stories (Don't tell anyone that you viewed story)

Increase stories quality/ Do not crop stories

Download -

Official website (Direct link)

Official website (All versions)

Official Instander Channel on Telegram

Installation and Use -

Download the Instander apk from any of the above sources.

Install as normal apk

Login with your account

You can find Instander settings by clicking the top 3 parallel bars given on profile page

Change the settings as you like.

Some things to know -

If you do not receive notifications for post or messages, download the cloned version from the Official Telegram Channel or the Official website of Instander given above.

Instander is always some version behind the official Instagram app because it takes time to mod the latest version.

You might notice some weird behavior in message section. It happens when you enable "Don't read" and "Don't type" from Instander settings. Its normal.

The app is completely safe and does not contain any type of virus. Make sure you download from the official website only which I mentioned above. The developer behind this Mod is a trusted person who works on Google Camera Mod named DMGC. You can google about it and read about him. You will find information about him in the telegram channel linked above in download section.

So thats it, I hope you like Instander and if you have any questions or issues about it, you can post in the comments section.
