Google has finally started rolling out one of the biggest UI update for Gemini Live that completely changes the way you use Gemini Live on your Android device. If you are someone who follows my work on Android Authority, I spotted this first back in June 2025. Since then, I have shared continuously about the changes which Google was doing with this overlay.
Currently when you start Gemini Live through the Gemini overlay or inside the app, you have the main UI where you see all the controls like screen sharing, mute/unmute, switching to video etc. While using Gemini Live when you switch to back another app, the conversation continues in background and you see some of these controls in your status bar or notification area. Here is how things looks currently -

With the new compact Gemini overlay, you no longer have to open notification area to control things like mute/unmute or hang up. Now you can switch from main Gemini Live screen to another app and you will see a nice FAB (Floating Action Button) which you can move around screen and collapse or expand to hide and see all the UI controls like mute/mute, video, screen sharing, transcription on/off or switching to normal Gemini overlay. Here are some screenshots -

This new overlay has been started rolling out slowly now. In my telegram group, users deccboi, Winter_Focus4136 and brokenthrone shared screenshots of the new Gemini Live overlay. So its safe to assume that it will start rolling out more widely in coming weeks.
Here is a small video demo -
This new overlay gives easier control over various things of Gemini Live while you continue with your working in other apps. Follow me on X.com/AssembleDebug for more such leaks and news and check out my channel on telegram as well
