How To Unpack and Repack Boot/Recovery Imgs With Android Image Kitchen On Android (AIK-Mobile)

There are various tools to unpack boot images of Android for windows, mac and
linux. The most compatible is Android Image Kitchen tool which has been created
by XDA recognized developer Osmosis. This is just one tool in his long list of
tools. There are some situations when we need to unpack boot or recovery images
to modify them or port them from another device having same chipset and almost
same specifications. 
 
Not everyone have a PC or Laptop to do this this kind of thing so some people
look for ways to do it on their Android Phones. Once again Osmosis did a great
job in making the Android Image Kitchen work on Android. Now you don't need PC
to unpack or repack boot images. The only thing you need is a rooted device with
a custom TWRP installed. If you have both, its very easy to unpack images , just
like we do it on PC with Android Image Kitchen. 
 
<h2>What you need ? </h2>
• A rooted android phone. 
• Magisk 18.0 or later 
• Terminal emulator / Root browser Classic installed.

Now there are two different ways which you can use to unpack boot imgs. First
one involves the use of terminal emulator only and second only involves the use
of Root Browser Classis app only. I am going tell you about both of them. Before
we move to those steps , first we need to install AIK-Mobile Installer. 
 
 
Installing Android Image Kitchen Tool 
 
This doesn't require much work, all you have to do is open Magisk Manager and flash AIK-Mobile-Installer zip. You can also flash this zip through TWRP. After reboot we are ready to unpack boot/recovery imgs. 
Lets learn about unpack/repack img methods. 
 
<h2> Terminal Emulator Method </h2>
Before proceeding to unpacking boot/recovery imgs you need boot/recovery imgs
first. When you have them, move the boot.img or recovery.img to
/data/local/AIK-mobile directory using any root explorer app. You can
unapack only one img at a time. 
 
Proper Instructions 
<ul>
 <li>
 Move your boot.img or Recovery.img to
 /data/local/AIK-mobile directory.
 </li>
 <li>
 Open Terminal emulator and then execute the following commands (italic words
 only) one by one - 
 → su (Grant root permission) 
 → aik 
 → sh unpackimg.sh (Script will automatically detect the boot.img in
 that directory)
 </li>
 <li>
 After above command your boot.img will be extracted in the
 /data/local/AIK-mobile directory, you can see the extracted boot img
 in that directory with any root file explorer.
 </li>
 <li>
 After you have done making changes or whtever you needed to do with
 extracted boot.img you may want to repack it again.
 </li>
 <li>
 To repack the extracted boot.img again open the terminal emulator again and
 execute this command. 
 → sh repackimg.sh
 </li>
 <li>
 Above command will repack the boot img again and you will see a new
 image-new.img in the same directory. This is the new boot.img, you
 can flash or do whatever you want with it now.
 </li>
 <li>
 To cleanup the mess i.e the folders we get after unpack and repack of img ,
 execute this command in terminal. This will also remove the image-new.img
 file. 
 → sh cleanup.sh
 </li>
 <li>Done</li>
</ul>
 
 
<h2>Root Browser Method </h2>
This method is for those who don't want to write coomands again and again to
unpack and repack imgs. 
<ul>
 <li>
 Open Root broswer classic app ,grant root permission and move your
 boot/recovery img to /data/local/AIK-mobile directory.
 </li>
 <li>
 In AIK-mobile folder we have unpack , repack and clean shell script which
 are executable scripts.
 </li>
 <li>
 If you want to unpack img , just tap on unpackimg.sh file ,you will
 see a script handler popup, checkmark the "execute script as root" and
 finally click on Execute button. You will see the unpacking process
 there.

 To repack the img , tap on repackimg.sh file and then tap on execute button
 just like we did for unpacking the img. This will repack your img and you
 get new img named "image-new.img" as final result.

 To clean up folders, tap on cleanup.sh and execute. This will clear all
 folders and files created after unpacking and repacking.

Google released the Android Q beta 1 back in March and beta 2 now in april. Moto G5 Plus has community treble support with the help of which we can install GSI of android Q beta on G5 Plus. This GSI has been made by erfan as a port from Pixel device which is receiving Android Q beta along with other pixel series smart phones. 
 
Considering the fact that Android Q is still in beta stage, you are not going to have a great and perfect experience while using it but you can still taste the flavor of Android Q before everyone else does. Things like WiFi , RIL , Camera are working pretty well. Motorola fingerprint gestures works here , you need to flash a custom treble kernel like Optimus, Extended or Immensity for Moto fingerprint to work. I have personally tested this on my Indian variant of G5 Plus which has 4GB Ram, so I didn't face much problem while running it. Experience of users having 2GB RAM models may vary.

The first thing I want to tell you is that it is going to be a little bit of long process to setup this GSI and get everything running perfectly. This GSI itself is made with a lot of hacks and Android Q is still in beta stage. I will try to explain everything simple as much as I can, but I hope you know the basics of installing a GSI. 
 
<h2>Requirements </h2>1. Patience, You really need this while setting up Q on G5 Plus.

Its a TWRP backup, extract it and place it in TWRP/BACKUPS/*deviceid*/HERE

There are two parts of this installation process now, first is flashing the GSI and second is setting up google crap. 
 
<cente> PART 1</cente> 
<h2>How to flash - </h2>• Extract the GSI and you will get a img file out of it. Extract the Pie Vendor and place it at right place as I told in downloads section. 
• Make sure you are already on Latest TWRP which supports both treble and non treble roms. 
<ul><li>1. Boot into TWRP , click on restore and you will see the pie vendor backup folder (if you extracted and placed the files at correct location) . </li>
<li>2. Tap on the Pie vendor backup and restore the boot and vendor.</li>
<li>3. Now go back and tap on Install and go to the folder where you extracted the img, after going there tap on the Install Image button given in bottom right, select the Pixel Q img then choose system image and swipe to flash it. </li>
<li>4. Now flash the GSI-Fuxes zip. </li>
<li>5. Flash the FixZygote zip.</li>
<li>6. Flash the magisk 19 zip.</li>
<li>7. Reboot and wait until you reach homescreen.</li>
<li>8. Reboot to recovery again.</li>
<li>9. Flash the GSI-Fuxes Zip again and reboot.</li>
</ul> 
Now you have reached homescreen , now next thing is to install google play services and get rid of the notification showing up in notification panel. 
First we need to turn off the scoped storage, without this you will not see anything in any file manager except the default file manager which crashes until we fix it. 
 
Fix Scoped Storage - 
1. Open Terminal Emulator. 
2. Type su and grant root permission. 
3. Type sm set-isolated-storage off and press enter, your phone will restart after this command. 
 
Installing Google Play Services - 
1. We fixed scoped storage now we can use FX file manager to install our gms.apk 
2. Just open FX file explorer and install the gms.apk like a normal app. 
3. After installing gms you really want to turn on your Do Not Disturb mode. :p 
 
Device is not play protect certified - 
1. Install the device ID apk. 
2. Open it and copy the Google service framework ID. 
3. Now go to Android Device Registration page , login with your google account and enter the GSF ID you copied earlier and click register. 
4. Wait for 5 minutes , clear data to google play service and google play store. 
5. Now you can login to your google account and turn off the Do Not Disturb Mode. 
 
Set your Google Phone app as default Phone app, otherwise you won't see caller screen. 
 
 
<h2>Bugs</h2>• Data connection is unreliable, it turn on sometimes and sometimes it takes some reboots to work. 
• Magisk Manager force closes, you can still grant root permissions to apps. 
• It won't pass safetynet. 
• Some apps might not work due to compatibility issues and the restrictions imposed by Android Q. 
• There maybe other issues.
